The name is thought to come from the Phoenician word attuna which means furnace. I don't know about you but 12K is too close for comfort to live next to a volcano!

Lunar Eclipse, Solstice, and Full Moon

Tonight, Dec.20 there is a chance to see a total lunar eclipse, a special treat. Starts @ 1:15 am, and will be in total @ 2:41 am. The moon should appear then as a red halo, because of atmosphere and dust. It will be in eclipse for 72 minutes. I will be watching, will you?

Wow, it's COLD!!!!!!

Feels like Jan. already. BRR! Remember to dress in light layers. scarf + gloves to regulate body temperatures. Bring in the dog, and keep an eye on the kids. Just because it's cold doesn't mean you have to stay inside, just be aware of the dangers. Remember to drink plenty of water. Your body still needs just as much as when its hot out. TIP: I set out my full water bottle at night for the next day. In a place where I will walk past it several times a day. Since its at room temperature its not too cold plus, being a reminder to "drink up". Enjoy the beauty of this time of year. Spring is only a few months away:)

A very special meeting

Walking into Norris Point this morning a large moose came out of the forest just across the road, turned looked at me for a few minutes and then silently slipped back into the forest. Our 3rd encounter in 3 days. Wow, they are huge. Now if we could just spot a whale.

Out on a Limb

I got a lesson in nest building from a Robin this morning. Who knew that they got that nice round, bowl shape by first tucking in the edges, then lying down and "pushing" with half opened wings to make the shape! She's working very hard to get it just right.

Waiting for snow

If and when it snows, I will dash out the door with a piece of "frozen" black construction paper and "catch" snowflakes. its fun to see how everyone really is different. (put paper in the freezer ahead of time) Have fun. Maybe also run around and try to catch them on your tongue:)
